OKA saw the need to create a sustainable and Mexican fashion alternative.
What we wear is not an accessory, it's an extension of who we are. Our existence is filled with items; in the everyday and ordinary, some for use and others as a simple manifestation of our essence. OKA is designed for those who exist in harmony with nature, for those who exalt life, and for those for whom Mexico is synonymous with land and greatness. OKA for the Mexican being.

Looking for something different?
OKA's goal is to offer a sustainable, cruelty-free alternative without toxic chemicals, phthalates, and PVC.
OKA offers vegan leather accessories made from the prickly pear cactus, a highly sustainable plant fundamental to Mexican culture that contributes to soil regeneration and stability.
Why did we choose nopal and why is it a sustainable material?
- It saves large amounts of water since it does not require irrigation.
- Improves the biodiversity of the region
- No chemicals such as herbicides or pesticides are used
- When harvesting the nopal, the cactus remains unharmed
- Encourages the agricultural sector to plant more cacti
How is cactus skin made?
-
Crush
Grind the nopal and let it air dry for 3 days to create a nopal fiber.
-
Spray
Pulverize the fiber to create nopal powder, which becomes a nopal protein.
-
Process
Place the prickly pear powder on a bed of organic cotton; add natural pigments and water-based adhesives and compress them with pressure and heat to give it a leather-like texture.
